What is the difference between Accidental Cover and the Standard cover?
Accidental Damage is a higher level of cover, basically it covers damage accidentally caused by you or your family. An example of accidental damage on content’s policy would be if you were to spill red wine on your sofa. An example of accidental damage on a building’s policy would be a DIY disaster, such as spilling paint down the side of your house.

What is the difference between Contents Cover and Personal Possessions away from the home?
Contents cover provides cover for items inside your home. Personal possessions covers items that you take away from your home such as jewellery and golf clubs.

Are pedal cycles covered? If so, up to what value?
Yes, pedal cycles are covered, if you take them out of your home they are covered under unspecified personal possessions, if they are under the value of £1000. Terms and conditions apply.

Are my drains covered?
Yes, underground water, gas, sewer and drain pipes which run from the buildings to the public supply are covered. We cover accidental damage caused by sudden external means. Terms and conditions apply.

Can we cover let properties?
No, we only cover privately owned buildings, however, we can cover your contents if your property is rented, as long as you own the contents.

Are my outbuildings and their contents covered?
Yes, domestic outbuildings are covered under your building’s policy. Contents are covered for theft, up to the value of £7500. Terms and conditions apply.

Do I need to provide proof of ownership of my property?
You have to own the property you insure but we do not need to see proof of ownership.

Is my laptop covered?
If it is not used in connection with your business and it is under the value of £2000 it will be covered under unspecified personal possessions. Terms and conditions apply.

Can I cancel my policy after taking it out and will I be charged?
The policy provides you with a 14-day reflection period to decide whether you wish to continue for the full policy year. This is subject to certain terms, including a minimum time on risk charge of £25. This period also applies following any renewal. Full details are shown in the General Conditions of the full Policy Document, which is available via the menu.

After this 14-day reflection period you can cancel the policy by contacting us. You will receive a proportionate refund of premium for the period of cover you have not used less £10.

No refund will be provided if you cancel the policy following a claim, or an incident which may give rise to a claim.

Can I have my Direct Debit payment coming out on a certain date each month?
You cannot specify a date. Your Direct Debit will always be due to come out on the same date as your policy inception start date. For example, if your policy inception date is the 12th February your subsequent Direct Debit payments will be taken from your account on the 12th of each month.

Is there a charge for paying monthly?
To pay your premium by monthly direct debit, there will be a 6% service charge with a 13.9% APR.

How can I pay for my policy?
You can pay yearly by sending postal orders or a cheque, you can call and pay by Credit or Debit Card, or set up a monthly Direct Debit.

Do you give a no claims discount on home insurance?
Yes. You can get 20% no claims discount for being 4 years or more claim free. If you have less than 4 years claim free you may still be eligible for up to 15% no claims discount.

Don't forget if you take out both Buildings insurance and Contents insurance together you will get up to 10% discount on Cornhill Direct's standard rates.

These discounts are consecutive and apply to Cornhill Direct's standard rates.

Is the cover new for old?
Yes, on your Contents Policy we provide new for old cover where the item cannot be repaired, except on clothing and household Linen. Terms and conditions apply.
