Homeowners 'continual' contents insurance review
Home Insurance News - Published: 25/09/2007
Homeowner should carry out annual reviews of their home contents and insure their provider of any changes they have made, a leading industry body has advised.
Graeme Trudgill, technical services manager at the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA), says that contents insurance increases often won't affect premiums in a dramatic fashion.
You must review [contents insurance] continually. Quite often, if it's gone up a couple of thousand pounds it won't really affect your premium anyway," he commented.
"Within your sums insured there will be a limit on the amount of valuables that you can have [insured] it might be a percentage or a fixed amount Valuables are things like jewellery, money, furs, paintings, photographic equipment.
"You do need to think: 'What do all my valuables add up to?', because if they're over the amount that can be returned on the policy then you need to get that changed."
