Working from home 'attractive' for women with kids
Home Insurance News - Published: 26/09/2007
Working from home is an "enormous motivator" for female entrepreneurs with children, one expert has claimed.
Karen Gil, co-founder of everywoman, says that remote working is especially popular with females who still "do the 'lion share' of home and family care".
"One of the biggest motivators for starting your own enterprise for a woman is the flexibility it gives you from a location and time perspective," she adds.
Close to one million women in the UK are self-employed, around 27 per cent of the country's entire self-employed workforce.
Female entrepreneurs currently account for around 6.8 per cent of the UK's working population and approximately 12 to 14 per cent of the country's businesses are majority owned by women.
Over 50 per cent of women starting up their own business say that flexibility is one of their primary incentives - while around 20 per cent say that family commitments are the main reason they work for themselves.
