Crackdown on 'rogue road users'

Crackdown on 'rogue road users'
A joint initiative between uniformed officers from North Lanarkshire and the force's Road Policing Department has led to some illegal motorists being caught, it has been reported, something which could have an impact on car insurance.

The Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser claims the plan, which ran for six days, led to three motorists being charged with drink driving and a further 39 with speeding offences.

Chief inspector Donna Henderson, from Road Policing, told the news provider the initiative was successful and showed the authorities were taking motoring crime seriously.

"As well as giving us a greater opportunity to crack down on people who are committing crimes, it also lets the community see that we are targeting areas of concern for them," she said.

Should the police continue to crackdown on car crime it could have an impact on car insurance as it may reduce the number of accidents on the road, which might lead to fewer claims being made.

In other news, a police operation in east Hertfordshire has seen the number of thefts from vehicles between January and July fall to 90, compared to 235 in the corresponding period last year, the Hertfordshire Mercury reports.
