The Japanese manufacturer has delivered the first of its Honda FCX Clarity to customers in California.
Running on hydrogen, the new car emits only heat and water and is up to three times as fuel efficient as petrol-powered vehicles.
Among the first to get their hands on the new car were actress Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest.
The star said she did not expect the car to be so "luxurious".
"I love the interior layout, design and access to controls. It is user friendly and very modern," she remarked.
Last month, motorists in the UK were able to get a glimpse of Honda's new low-emission sports car at the British International Motor Show.
The two-seat Honda OSM Roadster was displayed alongside the FCX Clarity and the CR-Z sports hybrid on the manufacturer's stand at the show.
