DVLA cracks down on 'tax dodgers'
Car and van insurance customers in one area may want to ensure they have paid their road tax following the news that the DVLA is leading a campaign against motorists breaking the law.

According to the Scarborough Evening News, NCP workers operating on behalf of the DVLA identified and clamped 12 vehicles in a single day this week as part of the effort to target untaxed cars.

Bethan Beasley, senior wheel clamping manager at the DVLA, said: "The clampdown on car tax evasion is great news for law-abiding motorists and bad news for criminals."

The DVLA is committed to reducing levels of car crime and "making the streets safer for everyone", she told the newspaper.

According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, motorists without car or van insurance also risk similar penalties.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the association, warned that police can now seize vehicles that are uninsured.

So far, approximately 250,000 vehicles have been confiscated by the authorities, he added.
