Students given car insurance advice
Students heading off to university this year have been advised to speak to their car insurance provider if they intend taking their cars with them.

Defaqto's principal consultant of general insurance Mike Powell urged students to inform their car insurance firms where they will be keeping their vehicles while away from home.

"Failing to do this may mean that your insurer could refuse to deal with any claim made under the policy," Mr Powell advised.

The expert also urged people to let the DVLA know about their change of address to ensure their vehicle registration documents are up to date.

He explained that the DVLA will then send car tax reminders out to the appropriate address.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, recently warned people that the "net is tightening" on those who drive without taking out car insurance.

For those looking to reduce the financial burden of insuring their car, Mr Trudgill said that insurance brokers will be able to find people more "affordable" policies.
