Police initiative could cut home insurance claims

Police and community support officers visited more than 800 properties in the Morley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) area to offer advice on preventing break-ins.
The representatives arrived unannounced and tested door handles and windows to check if they were locked. Six homes were found to be insecure.
Leader of the Morley NPT Inspector Joanne O'Hare said more homes in the area were secure than ever before, which she said was "great news" and attributed the increase to the door-knocking exercise.
"But it's important to stay vigilant and ensure your home stays secure to beat the burglars all year round," she advised.
A similar exercise carried out by the organisation in December found 28 insecure homes out of 795 visited.
Last week, West Yorkshire police also announced a recent scheme to improve security by leaving lights on in homes has reduced the number of burglaries in Airedale and north Bradford.
