Secure number plate scheme may help car insurance customers
Car insurance holders in West Yorkshire are being offered help to protect themselves against vehicle-related fraud and crime.

The Shipley Neighbourhood Police Team has announced it is bringing back a number plate security initiative next week.

Officers will be fitting specially-designed screws to make registrations harder to remove.

The police explained number plates which are stolen from cars can be fitted to other vehicles specifically so they can be used to commit crime.

PC Steve Trudge said the scheme has been set up to protect drivers from becoming victims of fraud.

He stated: "While it is not an excessive problem [in the area] it is one we are keen to tackle."

The initiative will take place at St Peters Church car park in Shipley on Sunday January 25th from 13:00 until 17:00 GMT.

In other news from West Yorkshire, police have vowed to keep up a campaign against speeding drivers in Bingley, after catching 23 offenders in one hour recently.
