Car insurance 'unlikely to get cheaper'

Car insurance 'unlikely to get cheaper'
The cost of car insurance is unlikely to fall in the near future, it has been suggested.

According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), it is difficult for providers to reduce prices because claims inflation is high and so much is being shelled out for personal injuries.

The organisation added the fact fixing cars is so expensive also meant it would be hard for companies to offer cheaper cover.

It pointed out motor insurance underwriting has made a loss in 19 out of the last 20 years.

Technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba Graeme Trudgill said: "Car insurance isn't making lots of money and it is extremely competitive, so there is very little room to manoeuvre and bring rates down."

Biba represents the interests of insurance providers and customers in the UK.

In other news, research by Moneysupermarket.com revealed green cover can cost up to 150 per cent more than standard policies.
