Car insurance holders 'urged to check tyres'
Motorists keen to protect their cheap over-50s car insurance premiums may be well-advised to get their tyres checked out in the coming days, it has been suggested.

According to Protyre, the recent bad weather may have resulted in these important vehicle parts getting damaged.

It explained when driving in snow it is easy to hit kerbs and potholes.

The firm also pointed out icy surfaces may have caused more drivers than usual to skid.

It stated both striking and scraping tyres can result in premature ageing.

Protyre claimed some motorists may find they need to replace tyres earlier than they were expecting to.

The company advised car owners to check their vehicles and speak to a professional if they are unsure whether or not new tyres are needed.

While the Artic conditions persist, Protyre has offered to carry out free tests.

Previously, the company has encouraged motorists to change their tyres when tread wears down to below 3 mm.
