Young car insurance holders targeted by DSA
More needs to be done to cut the number of car insurance claims involving teenagers, it has been suggested.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has called on schools and colleges to help it in its bid to ensure youngsters grow up to be responsible motorists.

It said by booking Arrive Alive presentations this half term, educational establishments could play an important role in highlighting the potential dangers facing newly-qualified drivers.

The group explained the sessions were run by experienced examiners for 16 to 19-year-olds.

Figures from DSA revealed 136 motorists in this age group died on Britain's roads in 2007.

Rosemary Thew from DSA stated: "It is a sad fact that one in five deaths on British roads involve newly-qualified drivers.

"They are certainly one of the most vulnerable groups out on the roads today."

Previously, DSA claimed advanced driving courses such as Pass Plus could help keep young motorists safe behind the wheel.
