Special screws 'could protect car insurance holders'
Car insurance customers are being urged to take steps to protect their vehicle's identity.

West Yorkshire police explained if a number plate is stolen, it can then be attached to another motor and used in a variety of crimes - from making off without paying for petrol to armed robbery.

In order to avoid this, officers are encouraging motorists to attend sessions where registrations are fixed to cars with special security screws.

They advised there would be a number of such events being held in Leeds and interested drivers should pay a visit to the force's neighbourhood policing team website for further details.

As well as using special security screws, PC David Muscroft said there were other things vehicle owners could do to reduce their chances of being targeted.

He stated: "Practical steps that can also be taken include parking your car in a garage overnight rather than on a driveway and installing security lighting on your property."

Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police recently announced they would be holding similar sessions in Oldham.
