Elderly home insurance holders urged to be cautious
Elderly home insurance holders may want to exercise more caution with visitors at their front door, following a number of incidents.

Working in association with Manchester Neighbourhood Care Group Association, the South Manchester division of Greater Manchester police has been reminding residents about the Stop, Chain and Check campaign.

This aims to encourage people to be more aware of potential risks when they hear the doorbell.

Recent incidents have seen burglars tricking their way into property to steal valuables.

PC Steve Hobson, crime reduction advisor, said bogus calling was a "despicable crime".

He added: "I urge residents to be extra-vigilant by not letting anybody into their home unless they are entirely satisfied as to the persons identity."

Tips offered to elderly home insurance holders include contacting their utility company to set up a password, which the caller has to state to gain access.

The police also recommended residents check for a caller's identification and examine it carefully with the door closed.

Earlier this month, students in Bolton were reminded to shut their doors and windows when they are away, following 12 burglaries since September last year.
