Better skills among younger drivers may benefit all car insurance customers
Helping to improve the skills of younger motorists could cut the number of car insurance claims made every year in the UK, it has been suggested.

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa), rethinking how new drivers are taught and tested could improve road safety.

Figures from the group showed one in five motorists have a crash within six months of passing their test.

They also revealed the number of young people dying behind the wheel has not improved in over ten years.

Rospa pointed out deadlines set for previous goals to improve road safety are approaching.

Spokesman Kevin Clinton stated: "It is exactly the right time to reflect in what measures have been effective and how they can best be targeted and delivered."

He made these comments ahead of Rospa's 74th Road Safety Congress, which starts in Blackpool today.

Improving the skills of young motorists could also be good news for more mature drivers.

With more people driving responsibly, older road users may find it easier to protect the no-claims bonus on their over-50s car insurance.
