Thames Valley police get tough with motorists
Thames Valley police stopped more than 550 motorists last week for a range of offences, including driving without car insurance.

During the five-day initiative, officers worked with representatives from the Safer Roads Partnership.

As a result of the campaign, 461 drivers were stopped for failing to wear a seatbelt, 70 for using a mobile phone and 21 for having windows that were too heavily tinted.

In addition to this 13 vehicles were seized because the owners did not have car insurance.

Road Safety Sergeant Chris Appleby explained the main intention behind the initiative was to remind people of the importance of belting up.

He stated: "It is a shame that motorists continue to ignore the seatbelt message and place themselves and their family in danger of serious harm or death."

People who receive a motoring conviction may find it difficult to secure cheap car insurance in the future.

Some providers will not even provide a quote for drivers who have been caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel.
